Meet An, Paris-born with Vietnamese roots, who has called New York home for over two decades.
Originally from Paris, his background reflects a quiet balance of influences—French and Vietnamese—something that continues to shape the way he sees the world today. His move to New York in the early 2000s was intentional, a long-held goal to live and work in the city. He began in finance, marking his first step into American life.
In New York, what stands out to him isn’t necessarily a place, but a feeling—"great interaction, great conversation"—the kind of moments that make people stay longer than they planned.
His connection to Jacques Solovière came through close friends, including photographer Marilou Daubé and creative director Pierre Jeand’heur. He now owns several pairs—the Fleurus, the Eduard Lug, and the Matt New Black—styles that reflect his personal tastes.
If translated into music, his Jacques Solovière would be “Un autre monde” by Téléphone, and more specifically “New York avec toi.” A track that captures the essence and vibe of New York City, but incorporating that French touch.
That same sense of contrast appears elsewhere. When asked what dish his Jacque Solovière shoes would be, he said a trompe-l’œil dessert...visually unexpected but very carefully made.
In the city, he gravitates toward places that don’t try too hard—small, unassuming spots where the experience speaks for itself. The kind of place you bring a friend to without over-explaining.
